INTESTINAL PARASITES
Intestinal parasites are parasites that populate the
gastro-intestinal tract. Roundworms, coccidia, hook-
worms, tapeworms, and whipworms are the most
common intestinal parasites found in dogs and cats.
Parasites can often be transmitted from dog to human
because of poor hygiene when picking up infected
stool. Always make sure that you wash your hands after
any interaction with your pet or their stool! The best
way of protecting your pet against these parasites is by
giving heartworm prevention, which also helps prevent
against some intestinal parasites. Heartworm
prevention is a pill that is given on a monthly basis. To
keep your pet safe from any intestinal parasites a yearly
stool exam is highly recommended.
